Residence without working:

Foreigners who are not EU residents who require a Schengen visa who intend to stay for fewer than

90 days or wish to reside in Spain without gainful employment may apply for a visa and/or residence permit:
✓ Entry visas (Schengen Area)
✓ Residence permits without a work permit

EU citizens and their family members, i.e., spouses, partners, children, and others who can show that they are supported by them, who wish to live in Spain need to obtain:
✓ An EU residence certificate
✓ EU family reunification residence permits for family members

Residence and Employment:

Foreigners who are not EU residents who wish live in Spain while gainfully employed must have a residence permit allowing them to live in Spain before arriving:
✓ Initial residence and work permits for employees, including executives and people in positions of responsibility
✓ Initial residence and work permits under the Support for International Entrepreneurship Act for

professional firms composed of highly qualified practitioners, university graduates, or personnel assigned by the same group, and their accompanying family members. Companies that hire or receive these assigned postings in Spain may apply for residence permits directly while the employee is legally in Spain.
